Film Opening Research #1 - The Matrix

How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences of the film?

            - The three titles that are shown in the opening of the movie are “Warner Bros. Pictures”,

“Village Roadshow Pictures”, and the title of the movie.

What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

- Green letters like from a hacker's screen, a bunch of words and number that pertain to the movie,             and a couple of people talking to each other.
What connotations do the images carry?

- These images show the viewers that what we are viewing is just coding from a computer.
How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?

- The genre is reinforced through symbolic codes when we zoom into these green letters, and we                 keep getting deeper and deeper into it. The action genre is then reinforced when we finish                         zooming in and we see a man holding a gun looking through something.
How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?

- It is established in the opening scenes when the two people are talking about a chosen one and                 whether or not they believe it.
What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

- One strategy is by opening the movie almost like a horror movie. Then when the police barge in             we see Trinity, then we cut to agent Smith the main villain of the movie. We then cut back to                     Trinity about to be arrested but instead she fights back using all these crazy moves.
How has technology been used effectively? You might want to consider camera angles, transitions and editing techniques.

- The use of technology in this movie was amazing, especially when they are showing Trinity                     fighting the cops. When they are walking up to her, we see the cops through her bent arms. Then                 we have a pan shot to show us Trinity’s iconic floating stance in mid air. Also, the lighting in the                scene adds to everything being extremely scary.
